Dickerson, Sally S.; Kemeny, Margaret E. – Psychological Bulletin, 2004
This meta-analysis reviews 208 laboratory studies of acute psychological stressors and tests a theoretical model delineating conditions capable of eliciting cortisol responses. Psychological stressors increased cortisol levels; however, effects varied widely across tasks. Consistent with the theoretical model, motivated performance tasks elicited…

Zachos, Paul – Science & Education, 2004
Phenomena associated with the "pendulum" present numerous opportunities for assessing higher order human capabilities related to "scientific inquiry" and the "discovery" of natural law. This paper illustrates how systematic "assessment of scientific inquiry capabilities", using "pendulum" phenomena, can provide a useful tool for classroom teachers…

Turner, Melissa – Clearing House: A Journal of Educational Strategies, Issues and Ideas, 2006
A 2002 U.S. Department of Education report concludes that only "24 percent of 12th graders perform at or above the proficient level of writing." Because of this perceived underperformance of students, secondary school educators need to establish writing centers to improve students' performance and attitudes. Writing centers offer many benefits:…

Beck, Dennis; Ferdig, Richard E. – Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology - TOJET, 2008
Although lecture and lab courses are commonly used in higher education, there are potential problems with this format. However, technology is presenting new opportunities for teaching such a type of a course. This study explores the changes in the role of the instructors when a lecture and lab course evolved into a hybrid course, with the lecture…
