Coffman, Routh N.; Levy, Bernard I. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1972
Position adopted in this study was that the underlying structure of what has been thought of as the masculinity-femininity variable is multidimensional, that a more valid description of MF would thus reveal a pattern and not a score. (Authors)

McGrath, William E. – College and Research Libraries, 1983
Circulated library books classified according to academic subject areas and student majors were used to determine relative subject similarities in 40 academic departments. Use of multidimensional scaling to compute similarities in undergraduate and graduate circulation and implications for library collection development and storage are described.…

Kornblau, Barbara – Psychology in the Schools, 1982
Describes the Teachable Pupil Survey, developed to measure teachers' perceptions of attributes that characterize teachable pupils. Teachers were asked their perceptions of "idealized teachable" pupils and to identify "teachable" attributes from an adjective checklist. The major dimensions found were labeled cognitive-motivational behaviors,…

Rubin, David C. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1980
After evaluation of 125 words was obtained on 51 separate scales, six more general factors emerged: spelling and sound, imagery and meaning, word frequency, recall, emotionality, and goodness. The claim is that multivariate research is a necessary addition to the study of verbal behavior. (PJM)

Wainer, Howard; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
All pairs of Rorschach inkblots were scaled for perceived similarity by one normal and two psychopathological samples. The resulting data were analyzed using Carroll and Chang's INDSCAL model, which resulted in a good fit in two dimensions. These were interpreted as a dimension of color and one of form ("twoness"). Smith, Peter K.; Cowie, Helen; Olafsson, Ragnar F.; Liefooghe, Andy P.D. – Child Development, 2002
Used stick-figure cartoons depicting various peer social situations to investigate meanings given by children in 14 countries to native terms cognate to bullying. Found that 8-year- olds primarily discriminated nonaggressive and aggressive situations; 14-year-olds discriminated fighting versus physical bullying and verbal bullying versus social…

Borner, Katy; Chen, Chaomei; Boyack, Kevin W. – Annual Review of Information Science and Technology (ARIST), 2003
Reviews visualization techniques for scientific disciplines and information retrieval and classification. Highlights include historical background of scientometrics, bibliometrics, and citation analysis; map generation; process flow of visualizing knowledge domains; measures and similarity calculations; vector space model; factor analysis;…

Bandalos, Deborah; Benson, Jeri – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1990
The Computer Anxiety Scale was tested for invariance over the grouping conditions of males/females and graduate/undergraduate status. Subjects included 187 undergraduates and 188 graduates; analyses were conducted on 136 males and 236 females. Results indicate that the construct of computer anxiety appears to be multidimensional with highly…

Gliner, Gail S. – School Science and Mathematics, 1989
Examines the students' understanding of mathematical structure and the relationship between problem solving and the identification of the structure in 13 word problems. Multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis were used to assess how subjects organized word problems in their minds. (YP)

Luborsky, Lester – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1995
Reexamines a 49-year-old study of P technique applied to a psychotherapy patient with a recurrent physical symptom. Explores dimensions of psychotherapeutic change as well as the context for the recurrent symptom. Illustrates the contributions from applying the P technique to psychotherapy research, to psychosomatic medicine, and to personality…

Kelderman, Henk; Rijkes, Carl P. M. – Psychometrika, 1994
A loglinear item response theory (IRT) model is proposed that relates polytomously scored item responses to a multidimensional latent space. The analyst may specify a response function for each response, and each item may have a different number of response categories. Conditional maximum likelihood estimates are derived. (SLD)

Cooksey, Ray W. – Australian Journal of Education, 1993
An Australian study investigated multidimensionality in college entrance examination scores. Data from the American College Testing Program (ACT) and Australian Tertiary Entrance scores (which combines year 12 course grades and scores on the Australian Scholastic Aptitude Test) were analyzed using a 4-dimensional model. Results suggest a single…

Marion, Linda S.; McCain, Katherine W. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2001
Explores the intellectual subject structure and research themes in software engineering through the identification and analysis of a core journal literature via two expert perspectives: the author, through cocitation analysis; and the indexer, through subject terms selected to facilitate retrieval. Topics include cluster analysis, multidimensional…

McLean, Gary N.; Yang, Baiyin; Kuo, Min-Hsun Christine; Tolbert, Amy S.; Larkin, Carolyn – Human Resource Development Quarterly, 2005
This article reports on two studies that used three different samples (N = 644) to construct and validate a multidimensional measure of managerial coaching skill. The four dimensions of coaching skill measured were Open Communication, Team Approach, Value People, and Accept Ambiguity. The two studies assessed the context adequacy, dimensionality,…

Hawkins, Colleen C.; Watt, Helen M. G.; Sinclair, Kenneth E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2006
The psychometric properties of the Frost, Marten, Lahart, and Rosenblate Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (1990) are investigated to determine its usefulness as a measurement of perfectionism with Australian secondary school girls and to find empirical support for the existence of both healthy and unhealthy types of perfectionist students.…
