Students were found to resist persuasive pressure towards alcohol after completing a course utilizing McGuire's Inoculation Theory. The Inoculation Theory familiarizes students with possible arguments pressuring them to drink and suggests refutations to be used. Details of this theory and techniques of the testing procedure are given. (DF)

This study examines the sex-role perceptions that adolescents hold of fathers, mothers, ideal males, ideal females, and selves. Differences exist between male and female adolescents, and significant linkages exist between sex-role identification and academic achievement. (Author/BW)

Compared the choice of parenthood in 17 Black low-income adolescents and 53 White middle-class couples. Results showed the decision to become parents was related to subcultural values. In contrast to White adults, Black adolescents did not see marriage, completion of schooling, or economic independence as prerequisites for motherhood. (JAC)

School system size and the guidance administrator's position in the administrative hierarchy were used as independent variables to test effects on the administrator's role, authority level, and needs satisfaction. These two organizational variables appear to have little impact on the guidance administrator's role perceptions. (Author)

Concludes that many interracial contact situations that are perceived as being of equal status by whites are not perceived in the same manner by blacks, suggesting a modification of the traditional equal status contact hypothesis as well as having direct implications for policy making in school desegregation. The authors present some recommendations that would enhance a residence hall worker's capacity to make effective referrals. They suggest that roles be clearly defined, that the resident worker know the receiving professionals, that training occur for the resident workers, and that referrals be concrete and specific.
