Criticism and recommendations made toward teacher education programs do not usually examine the diversity among these programs. This article explores characteristics of various institutions, their education students, and the content of their programs. (DF)

The overall system of cooperative education and teacher practicum programs at the University of Bath is described, advantages and disadvantages are discussed, and the responses of former program participants to a mail survey are presented. Several major advantages to the program type that emerged from the survey are noted. (MSE)

A 1983 survey of 22 male and 134 females enrolled in the University of Calgary teacher education exploratory field experience half-courses assessed the significance of course objectives and activities and the impact of off-campus locations on learning. Results indicated students did benefit from early exploratory field experiences. (NEC)

Field experience programs for education majors serve to shape and test their attitudes towards students and teaching, assist in role acquisition, and provide practice. The overall effects of the teaching experiences and effectiveness in promoting self-concept and constructive attitudes are discussed. Results are discussed. (DF)

A field work, internship, or practicum course, by virtue of its emphasis on practical decisions and interventions, is perhaps more directly concerned with values and ethical issues than any other course in the undergraduate psychology curriculum.
