The Teaching of Latin in the Elementary School: A Handbook for Educators and Administrators.
Le Bovit, Judith B.
This teacher's handbook outlines a successful program for the teaching of Latin in the elementary school. The text is divided into four sections: the first describes a typical class session, enumerates linguistic and humanistic goals and methodology, and delineates the first-year curriculum; the second evaluates the program's effectiveness; the third deals with the humanistic significance of Latin; the last discusses practical program implementation and community receptivity. An appendix contains several additional papers on Latin FLES programs. Two corollaries to this handbook are available: "Via Romana: A First-Year Textbook for Latin in the Elementary School" and "Modus Operandi: Teachers' Manual for the Students' Text Via Romana." (DD)
