Discussed are the child abuse reporting laws in Canada and the operation of child abuse registers. Comments on the recommendations of the House of Commons are quoted in the following areas of need: preventive services, research, statistics and information, amendment of the Canada Evidence Act and the Criminal Code, and public and professional education. A task force of voluntary organizations concerned with child abuse and neglect, as proposed by the author, is described. The bulk of the document consists of the following appendixes: a statement of the laws concerning child abuse and neglect; statistical documentation from child abuse registers; and legislative provisions and documentation relating to child abuse in the provinces, presented by province.
