Science Curriculum. Kindergarten through Grade Twelve.
Fitchburg State Coll., MA. Dept. of Special Education.; Leominster School District, MA.
This science curriculum guide provides a framework for science teachers of grades K-12 in the Leominster Public School System, Massachusetts. It represents the efforts of teachers and higher education faculty. An introductory section provides a philosophical statement on the nature of science and perspectives in the learning and teaching of science. Attention is directed to creating a learning environment for all, including the gifted and talented, bilingual students, and students who have learning disabilities. A general matrix identifies major objectives for science skills and processes and lists major goals in the life sciences, earth and space sciences, and physical sciences for grades K-8. The major topics, goals, objectives, and resources are specified by each grade level and are coded as to the nature of the skill addressed (introductory, reinforcement, master, or evaluative skill) and suggested method of evaluation (teacher made test, oral exam, project, or standardized test). Course descriptions are provided for offerings in grades 9-12. These include: (1) earth science; (2) animal husbandry; (3) general science; (4) biology (two levels); (5) principles of technology (two levels); (6) chemistry (two levels); (7) Harvard Project Physics; (8) honors physics (two levels); and (9) anatomy and physiology.
