Evaluation of Using Course-Management Software: Supplementing a Course that Requires a Group Research Project
Korchmaros, Josephine D.; Gump, Nathaniel W.
College Teaching, v57 n3 p161-166 Sum 2009
The benefits of course-management software (CMS) will not be realized if it is underused. The authors investigated one possible barrier to CMS use, students' perceptions of using CMS. After taking a course requiring a group research project, college students reported their perceptions of the use of CMS for the course. Overall, students did not perceive any costs. Rather, they had positive impressions of and perceived multiple benefits of using CMS. Students, however, did not report experiencing all possible benefits of CMS. Student use of CMS may be increased if instructors emphasize its benefits.
