Auer, Herbert J. – School Shop, 1978
The article discusses an aspect of conductivity, one of the electrical properties subdivisions, and describes a tester that can be shop-built. Breakdown voltage of an insulation material is specifically examined. Test procedures, parts lists, diagrams, and test data form are included. (MF)

Levine, David M. – Psychometrika, 1978
Monte Carlo procedures are used to develop stress distributions using Kruskal's second stress formula. These distributions can be used in multidimensional scaling procedures to determine whether a set of data has other than random structure. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Hypothesis Testing, Monte Carlo Methods, Multidimensional Scaling, Psychometrics
Rhoades, David J. – Journal of Counseling Services, 1978
Examines the effect which student participation in test construction has on test scores. In each comparison, students who prepared test items, and then were examined by a sample of those items, scored higher than students who took items prepared by other students; however, no difference was seen within groups. (Author)

Eisner, Elliot – Instructor, 1978
Discusses the current concern about establishing standards for student performance and argues that setting such standards ignores natural variability among children. (JMB)

Heyward, Vivian; McCreary, Leslie – Research Quarterly, 1977
Investigations of static strength and relative endurance of the grip muscles of women athletes revealed that mean endurance time was significantly greater than for men. Results were discussed in light of evidence suggesting possible sex differences in muscle hypertrophy, capillarization of muscle tissue, critical occluding tension level, and…

Bobo, Mike; Bushong, Judy – Journal of Physical Education and Recreation, 1978
The authors present seven suggestions to aid in the implementation of skill testing in physical education classes. (MJB)

Miller, William R.; Arkowitz, Hal – Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1977
Two experiments were designed to provide an empirical test of an attribution model of psychopathology and to extend it to the clinical problem of social anxiety. Specifically, the research examines the relation between social anxiety and attributions of success and failure in heterosexual interactions. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Attribution Theory, Failure, Hypothesis Testing
Brown, Sidney G. – Southern Journal of Educational Research, 1978
Employing the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire, this study investigates the relationship between the job satisfaction of Georgia school superintendents and perceived leader behavior of Georgia school board presidents. (JC)

Games, Paul A. – American Educational Research Journal, 1978
Marascuilo's and Levin's use of the term "nesting" to describe a statistical model, and application of the Scheffe tests on restricted sets of contrasts, is opposed. Changing the model during analysis of a complex set of data is both necessary and desirable. (Author/CP)

Mendoza, Jorge L.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1978
Four testing procedures for establishing the number of non-zero population roots in canonical analysis are investigated. Results of a Monte Carlo study indicate that three well-established procedures were effective, and a new procedure designed to correct a supposed flaw in the other procedures was ineffective. (JKS)

Ramsay, J. O. – Psychometrika, 1978
Techniques are developed for constructing confidence regions for each of the points in a multidimensional scaling solution. Bayesian credibility regions are discussed, and a technique for displaying these regions is described. (Author/JKS)

King, Daniel W.; Bashey, Husain I. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1978
The pilot study investigates a method by which blind individuals might administer an abbreviated form of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. (Author/SBH)

Carlson, Jerry S.; Wiedl, Karl Heinz – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1978
Various testing-the-limits procedures were employed in administering the Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices test to 108 subjects with learning difficulties (age range 8.4 to 12.9 years). (Author)

Mecklenburger, Jim – Phi Delta Kappan, 1978
However feasible or easy it is to do minimum competency testing, the difficult task will be to defend doing it. (Author)

Brown, Lester E.; And Others – Phi Delta Kappan, 1978
Effective testing appears to be that which is congruent with the mode of instruction. Reading test items aloud does not seem to compensate for poor reading ability of children tested. (Author)
