Baum, A. S.; Drury, C. G. – International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1976
In many industrial tasks a complex, interactive process must be controlled by a human operator in real-time, with or without the aid of a computer. In order to allocate functions between man and machine at the design stage, a model of human behavior and performance in such tasks is required. Progress towards such a model is analyzed. (Author)

Brooke, J. B.; And Others – International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1978
A training program is described which provides, during fault diagnosis, additional information about the relationship between the remaining faults and the available indicators. An interactive computer program developed for this purpose and the first results of experimental training are described. (Author)

Birkhead, Evan – Technological Horizons in Education, 1986
Local area networks (hardware/software devices linking computers together for economy, instructional control of classrooms, and data management, and communications) have great potential for schools. Nature of these networks, district and campus trends, and guidelines for schools are discussed. (JN)

Schaumburg, Frank D. – Engineering Education, 1986
Examines shortcomings that are not being fully recognized and addressed. For example, computerization tends to increase analytical precision at the sacrifice of accuracy. In addition, the computer has begun to diminish the art while emphasizing the scienctific elements of design. Possible solutions to these and other shortcomings are offered. (JN)
