Wunderlich, Roger; Gjerde, Craig L. – Journal of Medical Education, 1978
In a replication study the Learning Style Inventory was given to over 200 practicing physicians and medical students. Contrary to previous findings, the results suggest that there is no association between learning style and career choice in medicine. (Author/LBH)

Statistical tables on percentage distribution of visual problems by age and prevalence of severe impairments are included. (JDD)
Descriptors: Aging (Individuals), Data Collection, National Surveys, Older Adults

Pang, Lee Yick – International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, 1984
Examines and contests the claim that all language tests are in reality testing the same underlying ability which is very similar to the Spearman g-factor for intelligence. Conclusions indicate that the argument for the existence of a g-factor in language tests is not tenable on statistical grounds. (SL)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Intelligence, Language Proficiency, Language Tests

Burn, Christopher R.; Fox, Michael F. – Journal of Geography, 1986
Exploratory data analysis (EDA) gives students a feel for the data being considered. Four applications of EDA are discussed: the use of displays, resistant statistics, transformations, and smoothing. (RM)

Wilkins, M. Gilbert; Korschgen, Ann – Phi Delta Kappan, 1985
A survey of Wisconsin school districts showed that teacher resignation rates were quite low. Smaller districts faced the highest number of resignations. Resigning teachers tended to be rated by their supervisors as above average. The study results suggest that fears of "teacher flight" may be exaggerated. (PGD)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Labor Turnover, School Districts, State Surveys
Spectrum, 1983

Hunter, Bruce; Usdan, Jane – Spectrum, 1984
A survey was conducted to assess school superintendents' attitudes toward the concept of merit pay. Descriptors: Colleges, Educational Trends, Engineering Education, Government Publications

MacDonald, K. I. – Social Forces, 1976
Makes several methodological points to bear on a previously written article on residential segregation. Notes that although the conclusions given in the original article may be statements of fact, they do not follow as inevitably from the data as the article suggests. (Author/AM)
Descriptors: Formal Criticism, Metropolitan Areas, Racial Segregation, Research Methodology

Marshall, Harvey; Jiobu, Robert – Social Forces, 1976
Concludes that the issues raised by a critic of the original article bearing this title arise largely, from his failure to consider in detail the assertions made in the articles about the context within which causal inferences can be made using correlation and regression coefficients. (Author/AM)
Descriptors: Formal Criticism, Metropolitan Areas, Racial Segregation, Research Methodology

McNamara, William – Change, 1976
The higher education community can now produce statistical data with which to support its demands to Washington. The data are compiled by the Policy Analysis Service (PAS) of the American Council on Education. Implications of this data availability are examined. (LBH)

McLaughlin, Don; William, Paul K.; Glander, Mark C. – National Center for Education Statistics, 2004
One of the challenges limiting the capability for analysis of educational issues is that data on school enrollments, staffing, and financing are collected through separate but annually conducted universe surveys. Because the data are collected and provided by separate agencies, the available data from the nation's school districts are often…
