The author contends that psychology must have a sound basis if it is to develop properly, and a phenomenological perspective can provide a more adequate frame of reference. A wholly different way of looking at psychological subject matter and methods is being suggested and thus, standard natural scientific criteria are not applicable. (Author)

Desensitization or assertive training or both were applied to hospitalized schizophrenics who displayed phobias, lack of interpersonal assertiveness, or both. In none of the patients did desensitization produce any reduction of avoidance of the feared object. The assertive training produces minimal improvement in two patients. (Author)
