Ramsey, Robert J.; Frank, James – Crime & Delinquency, 2007
Drawing on a sample of 798 Ohio criminal justice professionals (police, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges), the authors examine respondents' perceptions regarding the frequency of system errors (i.e., professional error and misconduct suggested by previous research to be associated with wrongful conviction), and wrongful felony conviction.…

Plann, Susan – Sign Language Studies, 2007
This article is about the lives of nineteenth-century Spanish deaf girls and women. The research presented is contained in a larger work, a book titled "Portraits from the Spanish National Deaf-Mute School," to be published by Gallaudet University Press. These "portraits" are in fact biographical essays on nineteenth-century…

Arkoosh, Maire Kathryn; Derby, K. Mark; Wacker, David P.; Berg, Wendy; McLaughlin, T. F.; Barretto, Anjali – Behavior Modification, 2007
The validity of selecting treatment contingencies on the basis of the results obtained through functional analysis is well documented. However, a number of second-generation questions have emerged: For example, what are the parameters required to achieve desired treatment outcomes? More specifically, what is the degree of treatment integrity…

Savizi, Behnaz – Teaching Mathematics and Its Applications: An International Journal of the IMA, 2007
This text has been centered on two main ideas: the specifications of a good problem to be introduced in a classroom; and according to Freudethal's view, the importance of teaching the students how to apply mathematics in their own real life problems. Putting these two ideas together, we may conclude that historical real world problems fit the…

Kinzie, Jillian; Magolda, Peter; Kezar, Adrianna; Kuh, George; Hinkle, Sara; Whitt, Elizabeth – Higher Education: The International Journal of Higher Education and Educational Planning, 2007
Methodological diversity has enriched higher education research. One area about which little is known is the dynamics of multi-investigator multi-institutional projects. This paper examines what happens inside a large-scale, team-based research project with an emphasis on decision points related to methodology and reporting results. Systematically…

McDonald, Erin; Ardoin, Scott P. – Journal of Behavioral Education, 2007
Interspersing easy problems among challenging problems has been shown to both increase students' preference for completing math worksheets and the fluency with which they complete challenging problems. Although early research examining the interspersal procedure in mathematics was conducted with college-age students, there are a growing number of…

de Grys, Hans – Journal of Chemical Education, 2007
New methodologies for determining the pressure inside an unopened carbonated beverage are presented. Such investigations also help the students to think deeply about a subject, giving them better understanding.

Harris, J.; Lynch, M. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science & Technology, 2007
In this note, it is shown that in a symmetric topological space, the pairs of sets separated by the topology determine the topology itself. It is then shown that when the codomain is symmetric, functions which separate only those pairs of sets that are already separated are continuous, generalizing a result found by M. Lynch.

Mohammed, A. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science & Technology, 2007
The purpose of this note is to outline further enrichment exercises with rhotrices and thus to stimulate ideas on mathematical arrays and structures. Rhotrices provide students with examples on how to imagine new forms of arrays and their classifications as abstract structures.
Descriptors: Enrichment Activities, Mathematical Applications, Problem Solving, Geometric Concepts
Olmstead, Eugene A. – Mathematics Teacher, 2007
This article describes how all students can apply the algebra skills they have learned to problem solving through investigation, along with different levels of proving the conjectures algebraically.

White House Conference on Youth, Washington, DC. – 1971
The proposals reported here evolved out of the conference held in Estes Park, Colorado April 18-22, 1971 to find new approaches to ten major issues, and new ways for youth between the ages of 14 and 24 to become more involved in the decision-making processes of the social and political institutions of the United States. 918 youth delegates were…

Morrisson, Christian; Murtin, Fabrice – Centre for the Economics of Education (NJ1), 2009
Global economic transformations have never been as dramatic as in the twentieth century. Most countries have experienced radical changes in the standards of income per capita, technology, fertility, mortality, income inequality and the extent of democracy in the course of the past century. It is the goal of many disciplines--economics, history,…

Crawford, Jerry, II. – Contemporary Issues in Education Research, 2012
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are facing challenges to their continued existence on several fronts. One is fiscally, as federal funding for education has been cut and the responsibility for paying for higher education has been levied on students and parents. Another challenge is the amount of endowment dollars available to…

Alayyar, Ghaida M.; Fisser, Petra; Voogt, Joke – Australasian Journal of Educational Technology, 2012
The "Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge" (TPACK) framework has been used to prepare pre-service science teachers at the Public Authority of Applied Education and Training in Kuwait for ICT integration in education. Pre-service teachers worked in teams to design an ICT solution for an authentic problem they faced during in-school…

Huang, Chiu-Mieh; Chien, Li-Yin; Cheng, Chin-Feng; Guo, Jong-Long – Journal of School Health, 2012
Background: Drug use has been noted among students in Taiwan during the past decade and schools have a role in preventing or delaying students' drug use. We developed and evaluated a school-based, drug-use prevention program integrating the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and life skills for junior high school students. Methods: We recruited 441…
