The diagnostic significance of central placement of the first Bender-Gestalt design was examined by comparing protocols of clinic-referred and nonreferred children matched for age and IQ. Examined the side effects of parent counseling on marital satisfaction of 27 mothers and their clinic-referred children. Results indicated parent counseling for child noncompliance has a positive effect on parental marital adjustment for those parents who had an initial low level of marital satisfaction. Studied (N=212) women age 50 or over. Most mothers of divorced children indicated that the event had been negative -- traumatic, painful, and sad -- for them. The emotional effects of divorce on the mothers suggest that supportive alternatives should be made available for parents of the divorcing couple. (Author)
