Meh, Choy Chee – Educational Leadership, 1996
To help principals and department heads in their mentoring role, the Singapore Ministry of Education developed a computer system for classroom observation named SOCRATES. The system requires no coding, continuously records entire lessons, compiles data useful for sequential analysis, and allows teachers and principals to identify strengths and…

Martens, Rob; Hermans, Henry – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 2000
Developed seven Internet-delivered tests of prior knowledge for distance education students in the Netherlands interested in gaining information about future studies. Analysis of 151 responses received through the Web site showed student appreciation of the instruments and the assessment process. (SLD)

Alexander, Melody W.; Truell, Allen D.; Bartlett, James E., II – Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, 2002
Among 220 business students who had taken online tests, freshmen's perceptions of online testing were significantly higher and sophomores' were considerably lower. Loranger, Michel; Blais, Marie Claude; Hopps, Sandra; Pepin, Michel; Boisvert, Jean-Marie; Doyon, Martin – Education and Training in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, 2002
This study assessed use of five computerized analogy problems as a measure of mental speed with 62 children (ages 3-13) with mild/moderate mental retardation. Results found medium to high correlation between scores on the tasks and other cognitive measures and the adaptive behavior scale. The value of assessing cognitive speed in the cognitive…

Cupples, Linda – Language and Cognitive Processes, 2002
Examined how skilled adult readers assign meaning to sentences. Of particular interest were sentences containing "experiencer" verbs, which describe states or emotions rather than actions. Subjects were university students in Australia. Test items were semantically implausible sentences. (Author/VWL)

Engelbrecht, Johann; Harding, Ansie – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 2004
Online assessment in mathematics is becoming more prominent as mathematics and the internet become more compatible. This paper is based on a case study of a web-based calculus course in which a combination of paper and online assessment is used for assessing various activities. The paper first investigates what student assessment preferences are…

Gamliel, Eyal; Davidovitz, Liema – Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, 2005
Using an experimental mixed design, this study compared the traditional paper-and-pencil method for evaluating teaching with the online method. Replicating previous findings, the comparison revealed similar evaluation means of the two methods. However, the stability of teaching evaluations using paper-and-pencil twice was substantially higher than…

Hays, Shannon; McCallum, R. Steve – Psychology in the Schools, 2005
Within the context of a counterbalanced design, 102 students from either a high school or a large Southeastern university were administered two versions of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent (MMPI-A): a computer-administered version (CA) and a paper-and-pencil version (PAP). Time between testing sessions was approximately…

Meijer, Rob R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 2004
Two new methods have been proposed to determine unexpected sum scores on sub-tests (testlets) both for paper-and-pencil tests and computer adaptive tests. A method based on a conservative bound using the hypergeometric distribution, denoted p, was compared with a method where the probability for each score combination was calculated using a…

Klein, James D.; Fox, Eric J. – TechTrends: Linking Research & Practice to Improve Learning, 2004
The field of instructional design and technology (IDT) evolved during the 1990s to include theories and practices of performance improvement. Some authors have indicated that the goal of our field has shifted from facilitating learning to improving performance; and contemporary definitions of IDT incorporate human performance technology concepts…

Li, Yuan H.; Schafer, William D. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2005
Under a multidimensional item response theory (MIRT) computerized adaptive testing (CAT) testing scenario, a trait estimate (theta) in one dimension will provide clues for subsequently seeking a solution in other dimensions. This feature may enhance the efficiency of MIRT CAT's item selection and its scoring algorithms compared with its…
