ten Hoor, Marten J. – School Science Review, 2020
The mathematical method of linear equations involving the coefficients of the equation of a chemical reaction can be used to balance the equation of nearly every chemical reaction. For its application, only the rules of simple algebra need be known. Hence, the method could even be used by students of an elementary chemistry course.

LaFrance, Danielle L.; Tarbox, Jonathan – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 2020
According to traditional linguistic accounts language, and its generative nature, cannot be taught. From a behavior analytic perspective, language is like any other behavior; it is learned and amenable to change. Based upon Skinner's radical behavioral analysis of verbal behavior, specific procedures have been designed to promote novel verbal…

Phan-Budd, Sarah – Physics Teacher, 2020
It can be a challenge to come up with simple demonstrations of circular motion and conservation of energy. One such demonstration consists of a large exercise ball, off of which a small solid ball is rolled. The small ball is coated in finger paint so, after an initial push, it rolls nearly without slipping and creates a visible track.

Rucker, Thomas – Studies in Philosophy and Education, 2020
In this article, I propose a systematization of various aspects of Bildung-supportive teaching, as described in the context of German-language general didactics. Nowadays more than two billion people own smartphones, without necessarily realizing they have a mobile physics lab that can be used to study acoustics, mechanics, astronomy, optics, fluids mechanics, or even serves as an oscilloscope. All smartphones have at least one camera, which is probably the most well-known and used sensor of this device.…

Rödl, Sebastian – Journal of Philosophy of Education, 2020
The essay represents teaching as the coming to be of the human individual. In order to do so, it reflects on the character of human life by which it is knowledge of itself. Being knowledge of itself, human life is self-determining or free. Therefore generality and particularity come together in the human being in a distinctive way: a human being…

Viennot, Laurence; Décamp, Nicolas – Contributions from Science Education Research, 2020
Critical thinking is discussed in this book in relation to the ability to read and criticize explanatory texts in physics. It is argued that it is valuable but insufficient to know the general principles of critical analysis of texts, such as source control or knowledge of the main cognitive biases. We set out the objective of the book, that is,…

Rowe, Deborah Wells; Shimizu, Amanda Yoshiko; Davis, Zarabeth G. – Reading Teacher, 2022
Given the importance of early writing experiences, a key question is how educators can increase the amount and quality of writing in early childhood settings. Expert early writing teachers were observed to identify the types of activities and interactions they used to engage 4- and 5-year-olds as writers. Writing instruction occurred as part of…
