Empirically tests the prediction of the situational specificity hypothesis of personnel selection that states that if the situation is held constant, then validity findings will not vary. Bilingual subjects (N=61) completed the three forms of the Depression Adjective Check Lists (DACL), each of which was printed half in Spanish and half in English. No significant effects were found either for language or sex of subject. Findings supported use of DACL Spanish version with Spanish-speaking subjects. (NRB)

A study involving 33 children (8-10 years old) found significant relationships between the two tests' full scores. Most of the WJTCA clusters correlated significantly with the WISC-R (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised) verbal scale IQ which suggests a high verbal loading on the WJTCA. (Author/CL)

Compared versions of the Beck Depression Inventory in psychiatric patients. The alpha coefficient for 598 inpatients and outpatients on the 1961 version was .88, and the alpha coefficient for 248 outpatients on the 1978 version was .86. Developed the Bulimia Test (BULIT) based on responses of clinically identified females (N=18) and normal female college students (N=119) to preliminary test items. Developed empirically based criteria for use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) to aid in the assessment and diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in patients (N=200). Examined the relation between diagnosis of depression made by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) derived from the Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) in an unselected adult population (N=298). Developed and tested a short form of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) in 107 subjects. Results showed that when statistical corrections are made for item overlap between the two forms, the resulting correlation drops to .90 and that similar results were obtained in a cross-validation study. Compared self-reported characteristics of 22 families who completed the Family Environment Scale with direct behavioral observations of interactions on a problem-solving task.
