Prediger, Dale; Swaney, Kyle – Journal of Counseling & Development, 1986
Determined the validity of vocational interest scores for 1,380 young adults with high, medium, and low levels of experience appropriate to their predominant interests. The degree of congruence between inventoried interests and occupations pursued 6 years later was found to increase as interest-appropriate experience increased. (Author/BL)

Megargee, Edwin I.; Carbonell, Joyce L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1985
Investigated the degree to which eight Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory scales, specifically derived to assess correctional criteria, related to six criteria of subsequent adjustment in prison. Although some statistically significant correlations with the criteria were obtained, their magnitude was quite low, indicating the scales had…

Andres, Marilyn; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1986
Forms M and L of the Developing Understanding of Self and Others Affectivity Assessment Device (DUSO ADD) were administered to 23 first-graders. Alternate form reliability was significant at the .02 level of confidence. Forty-five first-graders were administered Form L of The DUSO AAD and the California Test of Personality. Concurrent validity…

Cohen, Andrew D; And Others – Language Testing, 1984
Discusses two studies that explore the possibilities of adopting the C-Test (which involves the deletion of the second half of every other word in the text, leaving the first and last sentence intact) for testing Hebrew. Suggests the test be used with the cloze test for assessing similar things. (SED)

Johnson, William L.; Dixon, Paul N. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
This study analyzed the results of applying two different methods of likert-scale construction (single-column and discrepancy-column formats). The findings indicated that the discrepancy format provides stronger discrimination for purposes of measuring need. (Author/BW)

Naglieri, Jack A. – Journal of School Psychology, 1984
Examined mean scores and predictive validity coefficients obtained from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC), and the Peabody Individual Achievement Test (PIAT). All three tests were administered to 35 Navajo children. Results supported general use of the K-ABC with…

Budd, Edward C.; Clopton, James R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Tested the hypothesis that the Repression-Sensitization (R-S) scale assesses self-reported symptoms of psychopathology in two studies (N=142). Results indicated that the R-S scale is influenced so powerfully by self-report of symptoms of psychopathology that its usefulness in assessing repression-sensitization is questionable. (BH)

Bolter, John F.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Contends that the Speech Sounds Perception Test form (Adult and Midrange versions) is structured such that correct responses can be determined rationally. If a patient identifies and responds according to that structure, the validity of the test is compromised. Posttest interview is suggested as a simple solution. (Author/JAC)

Moreland, Kevin L. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Explored the effect of scoring the entire K scale on the Faschingbauer Abbreviated MMPI (FAM) scales (N=1,258 normals; 1,181 psychiatric inpatients). The latter increased the correlation between abbreviated and standard sales by amounts proportional to the degree of K-correction, suggesting a cost-effective means of improving the FAM. (Author/JAC)

Jeffrey, Timothy B.; Jeffrey, Louise K. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Utilized time-saving Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) scoring procedures in two ex post facto investigations following approaches outlined by Vincent (1979) and Himelstein (1983). Results indicated high correlation between the Vincent and Himelstein approaches and WAIS Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQs while maintaining integrity of…

Stancin, Terry; And Others – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1984
Results from two studies examining the validity of caregiver information on the developmental status of severely brain damaged young children confirmed the validity and diagnostic utility of the Kent Infant Development Scale. Mothers rated their children higher than did teachers on the scale. (Author/CL)

Zimmerman, Donald W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
A definition of test validity as the ratio of a covariance term to a variance term, analogous to the classical definition of test reliability, is proposed. When error scores on distinct tests are uncorrelated, the proposed definition coincides with the usual one, but it remains meaningful when error scores are correlated. (Author/BW)

Ribner, Sol; And Others – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1983
Scores of elementary school students referred for special education on the Clinical Evaluation of Language Functions (CELF) were compared to rating of language specialists. CELF tests did not consistently identify children requiring therapeutic help nor those with language deficits. CELF scores also exhibited considerable variability. (Author/CL)
