Winters, Loren M. – Physics Teacher, 1994
Provides simple techniques for demonstrating and recording the effect of the changing shapes of moving objects when viewed through a moving slot. Includes a puzzle. A computer shareware program (IBM compatible) that simulates the distortions is available from the author. (MVL)

Wilkinson, Ladye K. – Physics Teacher, 1995
Describes the use of the computer software "Graphs and Tracks" a tool for interactive computer instruction, in teaching one-dimensional kinematics concepts and connecting these concepts to their graphical representations. Provides ordering information. (JRH)

Gorrell, Jeffrey – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1992
Introduces a method for gathering process information related to computer simulations and examines changes in learners' responses as a means of understanding the kind of learning that occurs within the simulations. Data gathered from 87 undergraduate education majors using simulations that teach the application of behavior analysis procedures for…

Cabrales, Eusebio J.; Eddy, John P. – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1992
Describes a computer-based simulation model that can be used for the training of higher education administrators. Simulation games as instructional and training models are discussed; weighted alternatives used in the model are explained; validation is discussed; and the architecture of the computer simulation is described. Lin, Miao-Hsiang; Hsiung, Chao A. – Psychometrika, 1992
Four bootstrap methods are identified for constructing confidence intervals for the binomial-error model. The extent to which similar results are obtained and the theoretical foundation of each method and its relevance and ranges of modeling the true score uncertainty are discussed. (SLD)

Sheehan, Kathleen; Lewis, Charles – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1992
A procedure is introduced for determining the effect of testlet nonequivalence on operating characteristics of a testlet-based computerized mastery test (CMT). The procedure, which involves estimating the CMT decision rule twice with testlet likelihoods treated as equivalent or nonequivalent, is demonstrated with testlet pools from the Architect…

Watkins, Beverly T. – Chronicle of Higher Education, 1992
At Boston College (Massachusetts), chemistry faculty are incorporating advanced technology into the classroom to motivate students to further study. A new $31 million chemistry center allows computer-based simulated experiments, computer-assisted instruction, and advanced graphics for visualization. Despite use of incentives, some student…

Zwinderman, Aeilko H. – Psychometrika, 1991
A method is suggested to estimate the relationship between a latent trait and one or more manifest predictors without estimating subject parameters. The method, developed for the Rasch model, can be generalized to two-parameter and three-parameter logistic latent trait models. The model is illustrated with simulated and empirical data. (SLD)

Fischer, G. H.; Parzer, P. – Psychometrika, 1991
The polytomous unidimensional Rasch model with equidistant scoring (rating scale model) is extended so that two parameters are linearly decomposed into certain basic parameters. A conditional maximum likelihood estimation procedure and a likelihood ratio test are presented in the context of the extended model (linear rating scale model). (SLD)

Duhrkopf, Richard, Ed. – American Biology Teacher, 1991
A computer program that simulates the random evolution of a metabolic pathway is given. The program shows that natural selection preserves favorable traits if they occur in a specific sequence. (KR)

Edwards, Lynne K. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1991
When repeated observations are taken at equal time intervals, a simple form of a stationary time series structure may be fitted to the observations. Use of correction factors is discussed. A computer simulation method is used to investigate power advantages of fitting a serial correlation pattern to repeated observations. (TJH)

Oehring, Sandra – Instructor, 1991
Describes computer simulation programs that take elementary and secondary students exploring. One has students act as Magellan commanding his ship to reinforce history, geography, decision-making, and resource management skills. Another has students use problem-solving skills to venture across oceans and find trading routes to the Orient. (SM)

Barry, Peter H. – Advances in Physiology Education, 1990
A graphic, interactive software program that is suitable for teaching students about the measurement and ion dependence of cell membrane potentials is described. The hardware requirements, the aim of the program, how to use the program, other related programs, and its advantages over traditional methods are included. (KR)
