Eleven profoundly retarded residents (12 to 21 years old) of an institution for the mentally retarded were rated on the Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens (TARC) Assessment System by three independent observers. A simple stochastic model is formulated in order to determine the optimal time between the first test and the second test when the test-retest method of assessing reliability is used.
