Students whose first language is not English and who are in the process of learning English. Emphasis is on development of English skills, not on the limited proficiency. Use only for students in English-speaking countries. For those students of English outside English-speaking countries, use "English (Second Language)" and "Second Language Learning". From 2012-2025, the descriptor "English Language Learners" was used in indexing.
