English Learners: Absenteeism, Retention, and Suspension
Office of English Language Acquisition, US Department of Education
The Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) has synthesized key data on English learners (ELs) into two-page sheets on a variety of subjects. This fact sheet reports data from the 2015-16 Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC), a survey of nearly all public schools and school districts in the United States, which includes data on chronic student absenteeism, student retention, and in-school and out-of-school student suspension. This fact sheet focuses on: (1) Percentage of K-12 Students Who Were Chronically Absent by English Learner Status: School Year 2015-16; (2) Percentage of K-12 Students Who Were Promoted and Retained by English Learner Status: School Year 2015-16; (3) Percentage of K-12 Students Who Received an Out-of-School Suspension by Gender and English Learner Status: School Year 2015-16; and (4) Days of Instruction Lost per 100 K-12 Students Due to Out-of-School Suspension: School Year 2015-16.
