CASE Insights? on the Donor Pipeline
Cara Giacomini; Deborah Trumble; Jacqueline King
Council for Advancement and Support of Education
A formal donor pipeline with defined giving levels is a strategic framework for thinking about fundraising and engagement activities that help advancement programs tailor outreach and communication, thoughtfully deploy human and other resources, and build long-lasting donor relationships that grow and deepen over time. How do advancement teams think about and support donors across all sections of the pipeline? Are there ways that Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) members can extend their use of this strategic framework to maximize results? To answer these questions, CASE Insights? and GiveCampus partnered on a pulse survey for advancement professionals at educational nonprofit organizations, K-12 schools, colleges, and universities around the globe. This is the third survey in the series conducted in partnership with GiveCampus that gathers insights on topical and timely issues from individuals working in advancement, with the aim of supplementing data collected in CASE Insight's annual benchmarking surveys. The survey asked respondents to describe their understanding of the donor pipeline and indicate which strategies they use to engage donors, with a particular focus on the leadership level that sits between annual/regular and major giving. This report provides a summary of the findings compiled from those responses and presents key takeaways designed to help today's advancement professionals evaluate and optimize their support of donors, and potential donors, across all parts of their donor pipelines.
